The Chronicle of Castrum Siamesiae
The complete history of our chapter – from its beginnings on the Menam to the present day.
Exotic – a Chapter like its Land
Like the city and the country, the history of our chapter is exotic indeed.
Small but fine, our Schlaraffia Castrum Siamesiae. A chapter with an ever-changing membership: company representatives, embassy staff, travelers who stay only briefly in our beautiful territory, but also members who have lived here for many years – Schlaraffen who arrived as such, and Schlaraffen who became so here in Thailand.
Far from the center of the Schlaraffen universe, the spirit persists in Bangkok, constantly enriched by numerous visitors from distant chapters. Fortunately, our chapter lies on the route to Asia and Australia. Many Schlaraffen stop here and use the layover in Bangkok to visit our Sawasdeeburg.
"Here in Siam one can live a happy life,
in the land of smiles I feel at ease;
yet sadly I miss the harmless merry strife,
in owl-darkness my existence knows no peace.
Despite sunshine and tropical night, a man despairs,
who cannot hold a Sippung with friends who truly cares"
laments Knight Nomadicus, who after six years of membership in the fellowship of Allschlaraffia, arriving from the chapter Kobea Japonica in the land of the rising sun, pitched his tent in owl-dark Bangkok. He had been appointed Chancellor of the German Embassy. At his side was Knight Gishi, an architect supervising the construction of the new embassy building.
They were joined at the beginning of a.U. 114 by DSR Bon-Jur, hereditary officer of the venerable Berolina, which spontaneously agreed to assume sponsorship of the emerging chapter on the Menam.
On the 24th of April a.U. 114, the designs for the chapter coat of arms and the welcome medal were approved. On June 6th, a.U. 114, pilgrim Kugler presented the colony with a real stuffed eagle owl he had purchased at the Sunday market.
The first Menam castle in the President Hotel soon became too small, and the chapter moved to the Erawan Hotel, where the 26th Sippung was held on December 5th, a.U. 114.
On January 25th, a.U. 115, the colony celebrated a splendid foundation festival, with about 100 fellow Schlaraffen from across the globe riding in. The throne was occupied for the last time at such a celebration by the three founding knights.
Exactly one year later, the sanction ceremony was celebrated with great splendor. Over 100 people rode into the Menam castle, and ASR Florett could look down upon an impressive gathering of 22 senior Schlaraffen and over 90 visiting members with their entourage.
Castrum Siamesiae Today
Castrum Siamesiae has now existed for 49 years. Despite many ups and downs, our chapter has always recovered quickly. A castle change occurred roughly every three years – we now hold our meetings in our 12th castle. We are the only Schlaraffen chapter on the Asian continent, making us an attractive destination for traveling members of the entire Schlaraffen universe. Every visitor is most warmly welcome!
Quellreych XIII
A Quellreych since a.U. 163
Quell – or in everyday terms, beer – is a refreshing beverage that the members of Castrum Siamesiae are quite fond of.
On the 7th of a.U. 163, we decided to join the fellowship of Quellreyche and accept their statutes.
For visitors, this makes things doubly interesting – we will gladly stamp your Quellreych passport. And unlike other Quellreyche, this happens not only at special Quell-Sippungen, but at every Sippung of the 383.
Dear friends – ride in and see if you qualify for a title … the Quellreyche award not only Quell honors and drops for a certain number of visits, but also distinguished titles to fellow Schlaraffen.
So here we go – three fresh Lulu from Thailand! 🍺
